Abstract:
In the last 58 years (period between 1962 and 2020) Salvador Rivas MartÃnez described or combined, alone or in collaboration with
86 botanical researchers, 802 taxa. Of these, 16.5% (131) correspond to new taxa for botanical science and the remaining 86.5%
(671) constitute new nomenclatural combinations or new names that replace existing ones by application of the Phytosociological
Nomenclature Code. Of the new taxa, 41 correspond to the specific range and 46 to the subspecific level. In relation to the new nomenclatural
combinations, it should be noted that 477 are of the subspecific range and 146 to the specific one, the nothosubspecies
constituting a notable group (285). The botanical genera that received the greatest attention from Salvador Rivas MartÃnez and his
collaborators were Jasione (30 taxa), Genista and Rhamnus, both with 21 taxa, the most studied botanical family being the Fabaceae
(83 taxa), Poaceae (79), Asteraceae (78) and Lamiaceae (64). His taxonomic scientific work was published in numerous specialized
journals, being the two journals that received the largest number of taxonomic novelties Itinera Geobotanica (with 47% of new taxa
or mimenclatural combinations) and the Anales del Instituto Botánico A. Cavanilles Madrid (with 17%). Regarding the volume of
annual scientific production of Salvador Rivas MartÃnez et al., four years of high production stand out: 1963 (with 55 taxa), 1991
(with 57 taxa), 2002 (with 161 taxa) and 2011 (with 174 taxa). Attached is the alphabetical list of the 802 plants described or combined
by Salvador RivasMartÃnez, as well as the 21 eponyms dedicated to our distinguished botanist.
